Shoreland Property Owners Invited to Free Conservation Meeting
Those who own lake or river shorelines and are interested in learning the best way to maintain and improve it, or even preserve it for the future, are invited to a free workshop in Rhinelander.
Presenters from Northwoods Land Trust, Oneida County Land and Water Conservation Department, and Oneida County Lakes and Rivers Association will offer this informational meeting next Thursday, July 24, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Newbold Town Hall in Rhinelander. There also is an option to participate remotely via Zoom for those who cannot attend in person.
Topics of discussion will include how to use shoreland, and upland best practices to improve water quality, increase property values, and increase biodiversity on your shoreline. Michele Sadauskus, county conservationist, and Baerbel Ehrig, lakeshore restoration specialist, both of Oneida County Land and Water will talk in depth about creating bee lawns, pollinator habitat, cost share grant opportunities and more.
John Heusinkveld, conservation outreach specialist for Northwoods Land Trust will present on permanent shoreland and upland conservation options for private landowners, including the basics of conservation easements. Also slated to speak is Ted Rulseh, president of Oneida County Lakes and Rivers, who will talk about programs and resources for new shoreland property owners and lake associations.
A free lunch an beverages will be served for in-person attendees thanks to a grant from the Wisconsin DNR Surface Water Grants program. Although the event is free, registration is still requested for planning purposes.
