Radar Run to Deliver Race Excitement on Big Stone Lake
Big boat energy returns this weekend to Big Stone Lake for the 16th annual Three Lakes Shootout and Radar Run, offering spectators a chance to watch high-powered race boats battle against the radar gun for "Top Gun" honors.
New in 2025, organizers have added a multi-engine class for boat racers, bringing the usual number of 11 classes up to 12.
Portions of this year's event proceeds will benefit the Three Lakes Veterans Memorial, located in the grassy area between the municipal building and the Demmer Library — which will provide a place of honor to pay tribute to past, present and future veterans.
Headquartered at Sunset Grill and Anchor Marine, the event offers free parking, fast boats, fun for the whole family, and food and beverages including grilled eats from the staff at Sunset Grill. The event is held rain or shine.
Events kick off Friday afternoon, June 20, with a lake tour beginning at Sunset Grill from 1 to 4 p.m. followed by a static display of boats from 4 to 8 p.m. Also set up for viewing will be one of John Kendall's Troy roadsters. Registration also will be open during this time, and SpiritView will be serving food.
For Saturday's main event, registration will begin bright and early at 8 a.m. Drivers are mandated to attend a driver meeting from 10:30 to 11 a.m., and the action will officially kick off at 10:50 a.m. with the National Anthem and Color Guard.
Radar runs go from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with an intermission from 1 to 2 p.m. Attendees can take part in the Ride with the Racer raffle and rides from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. before the radar runs pick back up from 2 to approximately 5 p.m., or until races are finished. Trophies will be presented at Anchor Marine from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
Racers can register in 12 categories: Classic Racer, Vintage V-6 Lake Racer, Vintage V6 Modified Lake Racer, Lake Racer, Modified Lake Racer, Jet Boat Racer, Pro Racer, Enviro “Green” Racer, Enviro “Green” Modified Racer, Unlimited Racer, Fun Class Racer, or Multi-Engine Racer.
