Solemn Ceremony Honors the Fallen
The Vilas County Veterans Service Office put on its annual Memorial Day remembrance ceremony Monday morning outside the courthouse with 20-year army veteran and current Lac du Flambeau Tribal Veterans Liaison Melissa Doud as the guest speaker, cannon blasts by the Eighth Wisconsin Artillery, and a Color Guard salute by the Veterans Resources Center.

A highlight of the ceremony was a special Native American honor song performed by Doud's son, Grayson Daxon. Other important moments included a bag pipe solo performed by Tom McKale of the Greater Milwaukee Fire/Police Pipes and Drums, and Boy and Girl Scouts laying poppies and a commemorative wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Music was performed by the Northland Pines High School band and choir, including the "Armed Forces Medley" and "Amazing Grace," respectively. (Photos By Michelle Drew)
