NAHL Forest Celebrates 100 Years
A number of conservation and outdoor organizations were on hand to share their knowledge with guests at the celebration, including a DNR spokesperson who provided Northwoods animal pelts for people to handle; area bat specialist, Licia Johnson from North Lakeland Discovery Center; Bryon Black, executive director of Northwoods Wildlife Center, who brought along Woody the wood turtle; and many others including Lakeland Area Mountain Biking Organization (LAMBO), Northwoods Land Trust, Wisconsin Green Fire, Trees For Tomorrow, and Vilas County Land and Water. Serving up burgers and brats were volunteers from the Boulder Junction Lions Club, and a special tree planting ceremony to commemorate 100 years of forestry stewardship was held by DNR staff. There also was plenty of activities for attending kids, including a coloring station and a "find that fish" net experience.
