Pertile Named Phelps July 4th Parade Marshal

Full day of events planned
The Town of Phelps has named Jason Pertile, dean of students at Phelps School, as this year's grand parade marshal who will have a place of honor in the town's July 4th parade that begins at 3 p.m.
Pertile received several nominations this year, including an anonymous one that said for more than a decade, he has gone above and beyond in his commitment to the students, families and staff within the district.
"Mr. Pertile has been a steady, compassionate presence in our school, working tirelessly to support students of all ages — especially our youngest learners — as they navigate both academic and personal challenges," the nomination continued. "Whether he’s guiding a student through a tough situation, offering encouragement, or simply being a kind and reliable face in the hallway, Jason brings unmatched dedication and humanity to his role."
In addition to his work as dean, Pertile also has coached boys and girls basketball teams over the years, not only teaching the players the game, but also modeling perseverance, teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
The anonymous nomination went on to say, "Mr. Pertile’s impact stretches far beyond the walls of the school and the lines of the court. He is a leader who leads by example, a champion for youth, and a cornerstone of the Phelps community. His work has touched the lives of countless students and families, and his legacy is one of compassion, commitment, and excellence."
"We are proud to have Mr. Pertile as part of our community and leading this year's Fourth of July parade!" said Phelps Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Laura Richart.
Townwide Events Planned
Phelps' annual celebration will take place Friday, July 4, beginning at 3 p.m. The festivities will kick off with the grand parade at 3 p.m. and live music by Jackson Taylor from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Floats, vintage cars, UTVs, marching groups, and anyone else who wants to be in the parade are asked to line up on Town Hall Road in Phelps by 2:45 p.m. Being in the parade is open to all, no registration required, just show up, Richart noted.
"The parade is just the beginning of the fun," Richart said. "There will be games and raffles throughout the day including a bounce house with slides for the kids. And a new addition this year – a cornhole tournament at 4 p.m." Those interested in joining can contact the Phelps chamber to register.
A number of local organizations and businesses will be on hand serving food and beverages, including Dublin's Paddy Wagon, Pine Cone Express and Taco Dan's food trucks; Sweets, Treats and More; soft drinks and popcorn by the Phelps chamber; and beer and hard seltzers from Phelps Fire Department.
Following Jackson Taylor's performance from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m will be this year’s headliner Night Shift from 6 to 10 p.m. when the fireworks start.
"In between sets, head to the shore to watch the fifth annual boat parade on North Twin Lake starting at 5 p.m. Residents, visitors and organizations are invited to decorate their boat and join," Richart said. The boat parade will start at the Millerville Lane boat launch on North Twin Lake (off Highway 17 in Phelps) and go along the shoreline through downtown Phelps and end at Dublin Sports Bar & Grill. Boats are asked to be at the boat launch by 4:45 p.m.
The Chicken Swap Cash Raffle drawing will take place at 7:30 p.m, with the winner going home with a $1,000 cash prize. In addition, there will be 50/50 raffles throughout the day.

"Top off the evening with an incredible fireworks display put on by the Phelps Area Volunteer Fire Department at dusk. It is sure to finish off the evening with a bang!" Richart said. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs for the fireworks.
