Andy’s Pontoon Saloon in downtown Eagle River is not being shy about winning the title of Wisconsin Main Street’s Best New Business of 2024. The popular craft beer garden on Wall Street has hung banners announcing its title and inviting the public to come in and see what all the fuss is about.

Andy Lichtfuss was awarded the prestigious award this past spring while the business was closed for the off-season. But now that summer is underway, visitors can take in the full experience to really understand why the illustrious award was given.

Established in May 2024, the saloon has quickly become an essential gathering spot in downtown Eagle River. Inspired by the lakeside lifestyle iconic to Eagle River, Andy's combines live music, events, and an inviting atmosphere featuring a unique pontoon-themed fire pit and stage. It has attracted visitors and residents alike, enhancing community engagement and significantly boosting local economic activity.

"I'm honored and grateful for this recognition," Lichtfuss shared. "Eagle River is an incredible community, and I'm proud to contribute something that not only entertains but brings people together in the spirit of our lakeside lifestyle."

The pontoon saloon's offering of live music takes place in the beer garden every Wednesday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m., directly following happy hour from 11 a.m. to noon. This summer's lineup includes Burton Tyler on Wednesdays, Brett Winters on Thursdays, Paul Christopher on Fridays, and Connor Christopher on Saturdays. Music goes on rain or shine.

The live music offered Wednesdays through Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. can be enjoyed not only by those visiting the saloon, but also shoppers taking a stroll by. Here, Paul Christopher, who performs each Friday, entertains beer garden visitors.

The bar is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, and the kitchen slings eats for hungry visitors most days from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., except Fridays when the kitchen closes at 4 p.m. and the Pine Cone Express food truck takes over to offer up Friday night fish fry and other options. Andy's menu includes homemade pizza with a choice of toppings as well as giant soft pretzels with cheese and honey mustard dipping sauces.

Lichtfuss embarked just last week on another community-driven activity with his new Run Club, which drew more than 100 people for its inaugural jog. He invites anyone to show up between 10 and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings throughout the summer to take part in a 2-mile run around the downtown area. Runners of course are also invited to stick around after to enjoy one of his craft beers options at the bar. Lichtfuss currently has a limited number of Run Club t-shirts available, but says once they're gone, they're gone.

"Andy's Pontoon Saloon exemplifies the type of innovative and community-focused business that strengthens our downtown," said Karen Margelofsky, executive director of Eagle River Revitalization Program (ERRP), who nominated the establishment for the award. "We are thrilled to see Andy's dedication and creativity recognized statewide. His success underscores the importance of vibrant local businesses in sustaining the heart of Eagle River."

The project was supported by ERRP's Sign and Building Improvement Grants, in collaboration with the city of Eagle River, Northern Edge Marine of Land O' Lakes, and Vilas County Economic Development Corporation. Lichtfuss' vision and execution have created a standout business that truly represents Eagle River's unique charm and welcoming community spirit.

This award comes alongside Eagle River's broader recognition as Wisconsin's Main Street of the Year, further affirming the city's dedication to fostering economic growth, community connection, and historic preservation.
